E-mentoring Programmes
Mentoring is not a new concept and e-mentoring is an extension of this.

There are four fundamental questions that should be explained:

Why use e-mentoring?

E-mentoring is a powerful tool that is most effective when used as a compliment to other strategies of development or support.

There are a wide range of benefits that e-mentoring can bring to your students. Here are some clear reasons why your school should get involved in e-mentoring:

Develop appropriate communication skills and improve ICT skills and awareness

Increase self esteem and improve motivation

Improve academic achievement

Independent careers advice

Provides the opportunity to develop appropriate relationships with supportive adults outside the school environment.

Who can benefit from an e-mentoring programme?

Everyone can benefit from e-mentoring whether they are students or adults because we can all benefit from knowing we have a third party that will give us an independent opinion or advice.

We recommend the following e-mentoring projects but there are also many other ways that e-mentoring programmes can be implemented.

  • Transition e-mentoring of year 6 by year 8

  • Business e-mentoring from year 5 upwards

  • University students e-mentoring KS4

  • Business e-mentoring of teachers and senior managers.

E-mentoring can work for all ages as long as everyone involved understands the goals and objectives of the programme and are fully committed to making it a success.

When should an e-mentoring programme be used?

E-mentoring can be implemented at various stages of school life, but the student must have communication skills sufficient to be able to successfully support an e-mentoring programme. The student must be able to maintain a conversation and understand instructions.

E-mentoring can be particularly effective when used to support the transition process from primary to secondary school.  This application of mentoring uses peer group mentors that have recently been through the process of changing schools themselves and can help and support others through the same process.

Mentoring can also be used to specifically support any Gifted and Talented programmes that are going on in school. These students can be e-mentored by adults that can give them specific advice and guidance to encourage them to meet their full potential.

From Year 9 onwards students need advice and guidance about all sorts of things from career to which options to take.  Who better to advise them than someone already working in the job that the students wants to do when they leave school.

How do we facilitate an e-mentoring programme?

We use the most advanced e-mentoring technology.  We have partnered with ePALS.com to deliver into UK schools a tool that is multilingual and has every possible attribute to enhance the learning of the student.   You can read more about the technology by clicking here.
